LOCAL AUTHORITIES WARNING RESIDENTS OF SCAM CALLS
(OLNEY/NEWTON) A note from local authorities : regional residents are reminded to be aware of scam calls. There have been several recent reports of someone calling and identifying themselves as either a local Sheriff’s Deputy or a U.S. Marshall with the callers telling residents receiving the calls that they have missed some sort of court hearing and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. Then the caller says that the warrant can be satisfied by the resident if he or she pays a certain amount of money. In fact, in some cases, the scammers have sent a fraudulent court document that appears to be legitamate in nature, but it is not an official court document. Authorities remind everyone to never give out personal information over the phone and do not send any money or make any type of payment over the phone.
