Margaret L. 'Muggs' Steininger
Margaret L. “Muggs” Steininger, 83, of Vincennes, passed away June 27, 2024. She was born Sept. 22, 1940, in Vincennes, to the late Ray and Helen (Lane) McCrary. She attended Decker Chapel High School. Muggs married the love of her life, William “Bill” Steininger, on Dec. 19, 1970. She was a member of the Decker Chapel United Methodist Church, the Bunco Card Club, and the Eastern Star for 50 years. She proudly worked for 36 years as a school bus driver for the South Knox School Corporation. Margaret also worked on and off for over 25 years at the Holiday Inn and Executive Inn as a waitress.

Mark Steber, an agricultural teacher at Richland County High School in Olney, celebrated major events in June, both a tribute to his talents as a teacher. Steber is Illinois’ grand prize winner and 2023-2024 Ag Educator of the Year. He was chosen the Golden Owl Award top winner at the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers (IAVAT) Conference June 19-21 among five finalists recognized for their positive impact in the classroom and communities they serve.

Sharon Gladish
Sharon Irene (Potts) Gladish passed away at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg, IN, surrounded by her daughters on June 27, 2024. Born on February 17, 1938, in Petersburg, IN to O.F. and Phoebe (Elkins) Potts, Sharon was the eighth of nine siblings. Sharon graduated from Petersburg High School in 1956. She married Kenneth Gladish on July 6, 1958, and will be laid to rest on what would have been Sharon and Kenneth’s 66th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her sister Nancy (Jerry) Myers of Decatur, TX, daughters Stacy Gladish Woodall of Evansville and Shelly Gladish (John) Simeone of Indianapolis, granddaughters Amy Woodall (Matt) Tate of Chicago, IL, Laura Woodall (Gordon) Werner of Newburgh, step-granddaughter Lily Simeone of Indianapolis, great-grandsons Maxwell Werner, Luke Werner, Benjamin Werner, great-granddaughter Emma Werner, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and five brothers.

City: Washington Avenue On Track for On-Time Completion
Work continues on Washington Avenue, as crews are finishing up with drainage work ahead of a planned resurfacing of the road itself. The work so far has focused on drainage improvement from the Burnett Heights east of Washington Avenue. Before the project, rain from that elevated area was draining down the hill into Gregg Park. However, Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says the drainage improvement will stop that from happening. Mayor Yochum also assures everyone despite some lack of above-ground work, right now, the project is on schedule.

Kathy Lynn Ficklin
Kathy Lynn Ficklin, 68, of Petersburg, passed away June 25, 2024 at her home. She was born July 24, 1955 in Indianapolis, IN to Wiley and Dixie (Reuss) Marchbanks. Kathy graduated from Petersburg High School Class of 1973. She faithfully attended the Maple Grove Pentecostal Church. Kathy married her husband of 50 years, Ron Ficklin, on December 1, 1973. She worked for many years at Citizens State Bank and through the transition to German American Bank holding many positions during those years. Kathy was a woman of devout faith and loved her Lord Jesus Christ. One of her favorite things to do was spending time with family and those she loved. She never knew a stranger and will always be known for her outgoing personality and sense of humor.
