FIRST ALERT: Heat wave is still persisting
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Good morning NCWV and welcome into a new week! We are still seeing those high temperatures in the mid to high 90s in the lowlands and the mid to high 80s in the higher elevations for today and tomorrow. We are going to be seeing some rainfall as well as some storms in the area this evening as a frontal system starts to push into NCWV. These storms do have the potential to be severe, with damaging winds being the biggest threat. Wind gusts are currently forecasted at 30MPH for this evening. As we get into tomorrow, this frontal system starts to push the the NE and starts to stall out over us. We will start to see rain showers and storms once again as we get into the afternoon hours and once again these storms have severe potential, with wind gusts getting up to 40MPH. Tornado chances are also non-zero, while these chances remain unlikely, there is still potential to see them more towards the NW of NCWV. With this frontal system however, we will start to see temperatures finally drop off and get back into the low to mid 80s in the lowlands! BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) -Pierpont Technical and Community College’s Annual Makers Camp kicked off today. The program will take place at Pierpont’s Advanced Technology Center, located in Fairmont, for a week long experience in immersive STREAM. STREAM, similar to STEM, includes the studies of science, technology, reading and writing, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Middle school and High school students look forward to having this opportunity every year, with expectations of diving into the exciting worlds of 3d printing, robotics, coding and more. A West Virginia woman died Friday after she was injured when she fell out of a golf cart about a week earlier in Monroe County. Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. One more day of 90°+ weather before storms bring relief
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Temperatures have been climbing above 90° for the past few days, with Monday’s highs inching to just shy of record-breaking in some areas. Tuesday will be similarly hot, but will be the last day in the 90s for a little while. A cold front will be approaching the area from the NW, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and eventually, cooler air. The storms will arrive in the afternoon and continue into the evening, and have the potential to become severe in isolated cases. Strong, damaging wind gusts are possible anywhere in NCWV within thunderstorms. Heavy rain could pose a localized flash flooding risk, though that risk will stay low since we have been very dry.
