City Council discusses public drinking ordinance
WILLIAMSON — Williamson City Council met on July 11 for their only meeting of the month to discuss the public drinking ordinance and other topics within the city. The first reading of the ordinance was summarized by Williamson City Attorney Nathan Brown. The ordinance will allow patrons of restaurants to bring their alcoholic beverages out onto designated zones in the city during different points of the week. The first reading stated that businesses would apply with the city clerk to participate in those areas.

As far as I know, you cannot bring back the dead. However, I don’t have any problem in bringing “up” the dead — as in, why are you bringing up that subject?. Well, the reason I’ve chosen this topic is because when one thinks of the deceased, the word “cemetery” is almost always associated with the dead. It is in the solitude of graveyards that many secrets have been buried along with the lifeless bodies that make up the earthly void, and there most certainly are interesting stories connected to certain cemeteries in Logan County.

200 attend 2nd annual Justin Marcum Law Office Basketball Camp
WILLIAMSON — Over 200 local hoopers came out for the second annual Justin Marcum Law Office Basketball Camp on Saturday, July 13 inside the historic Williamson Fieldhouse. For the second year in a row the camp was free of charge, with every camper receiving a camp T-shirt. Three Marshall players were in attendance helping with the camp, including former Chapmanville star Obinna Anochili-Killen along with Herd teammates Nate Martin and Ryan Nutter. Former Mingo Central star and Marshall and University of Pikeville standout Jeremy Dillon also served as a camp instructor.
Bible Basketball Camp returns to Williamson
WILLIAMSON — The First Baptist Church of Williamson held their annual Bible Basketball Camp inside the historic Williamson Fieldhouse from July 9 to July 13. Over 70 campers came out to the longtime event, which was started 30 years ago. This was the 29th year of the camp however, as it was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Commissioners grant $12,000 for Mitchell Heights drain repair
LOGAN — The Logan County Commission on Monday pledged a donation of $12,000 toward the town of Mitchell Heights for a previously-mentioned drain repair project. During the commission’s previous meeting on June 24, Mitchell Heights Mayor Cliff Motes approached commissioners seeking help over a drain issue he said the town doesn’t have the financial resources to fully take care of themselves. He explained that the drain is about 80 years old and is causing property erosion as well as a retaining wall to start collapsing.
