Neighborhoods in Pa. cities can get up-to 13 degrees hotter due to urban environment
On hot days, it can feel hotter in some Pennsylvania cities, according to a new analysis by Climate Central, a non-profit science communications group. That’s because of the urban heat-island index – additional heat absorbed and released by buildings, roads, and pavement. The study showed that Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre all felt at least 8 degrees hotter, with some regions of the cities feeling up to 13 degrees hotter.

A heat advisory is still in effect for central Pennsylvania, and the National Weather Service has added an excessive heat warning that will go into effect at noon. The weather service warned that Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties will be feeling oppressive heat over the next couple of days, with the heat index topping out around 105 degrees today and 106 on Tuesday.

The driver of a sedan was heading north of South Broad Street/PA Route 501 when they "experienced a sudden medical issue causing them to lose control of the vehicle.
