Just over a year ago, a Mount Holly boy and his great-grandfather picked up a hobby making wooden wind spinners together.

Today, the duo has fine-tuned the size and expanded to special designs on the spinners, which they sell at around $55 each.

According to the family, the business was born from 93-year-old Bill Robinson’s search for a new hobby he could do with his 8-year-old great-grandson Jackson Poole.

Poole’s family, including his grandparents and great-grandparents, all live on the same property, according to his mom Megan Poole.

Robinson has always had a very present role in the lives of his two children, three grandchildren, and both great-grandchildren, she said.

When Jackson Poole was younger, Robinson said the two enjoyed playing with model cars together and today Robinson enjoys listening to him play piano when they are not working with their tools.

The idea for the wind spinners was born when Robinson saw a video explaining how to make them on YouTube, he said.

According to Megan Poole, Robinson spends a chunk of his time watching how-to and do-it-yourself videos on YouTube.

He put together a tool box specifically for Jackson, and the pair got to work.

Poole said his favorite part is putting the spinners on the metal sticks, and the coolest spinner they have made, in his opinion, is American flag themed.

The pair has expanded into other wood crafts like stove covers, Megan Poole said.

The family considered going to the farmer’s market to sell their crafts but decided to stick with the word-of-mouth method and taking orders on Facebook.

Robinson and Poole make one spinner every month.

When they are not working in the shop together, Poole also does karate, practices his piano, and enjoys swimming, his mom said.
