Wertzville Road pipe replacement project delayed
A pipe replacement project on Wertzville Road has been rescheduled, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Friday. The work to replace a large large pipe on Route 944, also known as Wertzville Road, between Peacock Drive and Deer Lane in Middlesex Township was initially scheduled to be replaced beginning Monday. Work is now expected to begin on Aug. 7 or Aug. 8.

Alex Meckley threw just 17.1 innings during his high school baseball career at Gettysburg, but it wasn’t because of his ability. Meckley, like every other athlete in high school at the time, didn’t get to play in the spring of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Then, as a senior the following season, injuries limited his time on the hill to just 11 frames. All told, he struck out 29 hitters and walked 10 in 17.1 innings on a high school mound while allowing five earned runs and 11 hits.

Patrick F. Murren, age 84, of Brushtown, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover. Patrick was born in Hanover, Pa., on March 27, 1940, and was the son of the late Francis J. and Hilda R. (Wolfe) Murren. He resided at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover with his brothers Philip and Mark and was lovingly cared for by his brother Michael and wife Kathleen. Patrick enjoyed farming and time spent with his family and was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of McSherrystown, McSherrystown Home Assoc., and S.A.V.E.S., and enjoyed attending baseball games on Sunday afternoons at the Brushtown Athletic Association. Patrick was also a longtime parishioner of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in McSherrystown.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Miller; by his son Charles Brian Yaeger, daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Beth) Yaeger, and two grandchildren, Brayden Yaeger and Bailey Yaeger, of Manchester, Md.; and by his brothers, Harry Miller Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and Richard Miller of Woodstock, Md.

Allen H. Bowersox, 85, of Hanover, Pa., died Friday July 26, 2024, at Kingston Court Nursing and Rehab in York. Born Aug. 17, 1938, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Harvey J. and Naomi R. (Kreitzer) Bowersox. Allen was a 1956 graduate of Eichelberger High School. He served in the Pa. National Guard from 1961 to 1967 and was on active duty in 1962. He spent 49 years in retail sales. Allen retired from Walmart in 2005, a job he loved.
