Visitors Center to remain ‘as is’
LURAY, July 15 — The Page County Board of Supervisors resolved a few months of concern and controversy within a few minutes Monday night when they voted, 5-1, to leave the Luray-Page County Visitors Center housed at the historic train depot in Downtown Luray. In addition, the county will continue, as it has for the past three decades, to contract with the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce to operate the Visitors Center.
Oasis in the mountains: A tour of the Piedmont Memorial Overlook
A little east of Front Royal, the Piedmont Memorial Overlook offers stunning views near Sky Meadows State Park. WMRA’s Ayse Pirge took a tour. The property of about 1400 acres was purchased by the Piedmont Environmental Council, or PEC, in 2000 with help from foundations, as well as some local families. Restoration efforts for the meadow began in 2012, and now the land is home to a range of wildlife, including redheaded woodpeckers and yellow breasted chats.
Sunset market attracts ‘different crowd’ and more than food vendors
Mike Hott, owner of the locally-owned Hott Apiary, sets up a table at every Harrisonburg farmers market to sell his product and talk with customers. Last year, he also started selling his honey at Harrisonburg’s seasonal Sunset Market — a pop-up market on every third Thursday of the summer months featuring live music, local vendors and plenty of food options for the whole family. July’s market is coming up this Thursday.

Litten sentenced to 25 years in prison for standoff near Mount Jackson

Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA offering fee-waived adoptions for ‘Mutt-urity Matters’ campaign
