A severe lack of morality and integrity, a lack of equality of justice for everyone, a lack accepting responsibility for one’s own pronouncements and/or actions, blaming others for the problem of the times, AND failing to give proper time and effort to correct discrepancies.” and on and on: “shameful disrespect for those who have made sacrifices for our freedom!!!” and still more.

Vandenberg Named Assistant To City Manager
Brian Vandenberg was named as Harrisonburg’s new assistant to the city manager in a press release Thursday. In his new position, Vandenberg will serve as a key member of City Manager Ande Banks’ leadership team, according to the release. He will work with Banks, Deputy City Manager Amy Snider, and all city departments.
Elkton Moves Forward On Nuisance Properties
ELKTON — The town of Elkton has taken a step forward in dealing with nuisance properties in town limits. The Town Council voted to engage a private company to clean up properties that have become blighted. In previous discussions on the matter, town officials said several things can happen to make a property blighted, including a building that is falling down or otherwise unsafe.

Sergeant Robert Owen “Bull Dog” Bragg, 37, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at his home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11 AM at Rockland Community Church, 2921 Rockland Road, Front Royal with the Rev. William “Bill” Orndorff officiating. Burial will follow at Rockland Community Cemetery.
William Byrd Pond
William Byrd Pond, 97, a resident of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community died July 15, 2024. He was born August 3, 1926, in Harrisonburg and was the son of Evelyn Byrd Cameron Purcell and William H. Pond. Throughout his life, Bill honored the care and influence of his beloved Stepfather, the late William E. Lee Purcell, who came into his life when Bill was eight years old. Bill was also the great grandson of Governor William E. Cameron, who served as Governor of Virginia from 1882 –1886. Bill grew up in Richmond, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943, and shortly after joined the US Navy at age 17, with the permission of his mother. He served for three years, seeing service in the Pacific Theater. Bill received training at the Naval Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, Virginia, and was assigned to the Minesweeper USS Sprig (AM384). After his service in World War II, Bill attended the University of Richmond where he was on the varsity tennis team and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. After receiving a BA Degree from the University of Richmond, Bill volunteered for service in the Korean War, serving on the staff of Admiral Arthur Radford at Pearl Harbor and later assigned to the destroyer USS Keppler (DDE 765).
