    Mt. Laurel Police Department Celebrates Retirements of Two Longtime Officers

    Officer AJ Haines and Officer Dave Sweely officially retired on June 29 after having their retirement pass and review.

    MOUNT LAUREL, NJ The Mount Laurel community is celebrating the recent retirement of two long-serving Mount Laurel Police Officers.

    Officer AJ Haines and Officer Dave Sweely officially retired on June 29 after having their retirement pass and review with friends, family and fellow first responders in attendance.

    Both Officers Haines and Sweely had a 25-year career in law enforcement, having started their careers in 1999.

    Officer Sweely spent many years in the Mount Laurel Police Department's (MLPD) patrol division and served on the MLPD's SWAT Team. He eventually was assigned as a School Resource Officer and became a familiar face to Mount Laurel's students and families.

    Officer Haines began his career as a patrol officer and then became a Field Training Officer, mentoring many new officers throughout his career. He is known to always have a smile on his face and for driving his motorcycle to work in rain or shine.

    "We congratulate them on their retirement. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and service to the Mount Laurel Community," said the MLPD. "You will be greatly missed."

    Officer Haines and Officer Sweely join Chief Judy Lynn Schiavone in recent retirement company. Schiavone retired on June 20 after a 25-year career beginning with the MLPD in 1999 and eventually being named Mount Laurel's first female Police Chief when she took the oath of office in January 2023 .

    All three were honored at the July 1 meeting of the Mount Laurel Township Council , where they were presented with proclamations.
