    MOUNT LAUREL, NJ – A Mount Laurel playground will be getting a makeover this summer.

    “The Township is always looking at possible ways to upgrade or enhance our current recreational areas,” Jerry Mascia, the Township’s Superintendent of Public Works and Deputy Township Manager, told TAPinto Mount Laurel.

    At the Mount Laurel Council meeting on June 11, members awarded Southampton-based Coastline Excavating a bid worth $144,834 to perform multiple tasks at Willow Turn Park Playground, including:

    • Removing sidewalks, pavement and fencing;
    • Installing surface materials, sidewalks, a driveway and a parking space, as well as a double-bay bipod swing set that are all Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant;
    • Applying a new coat of paint to the crosswalk and installing new signs in that area;
    • Performing restorations such as topsoiling, seeding, fertilizing and mulching; and
    • Installing handrails

    Coastline Excavating is slated to start the project at the park and playground that sits adjacent to several pickleball courts at 525 Willow Turn in mid-July and complete it by the end of September, according to Mascia.

    Funding for the facelift came from the Township’s 2023 Community Development Block Grant allocation,he said, adding  that “Willow Turn was the only playground eligible to receive Community Development (Block Grant) funding.”

    Federal Housing and Urban Development rules dictate that Community Development Block Grant funding, like that used to fund the improvements, be used “to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.”
