MOUNT LAUREL, NJ – There is a new owner for the Catalyst Experimental building at 1112 Route 73 South, the same building that was once touted as the future home of the Mount Laurel Emergency Medical Services (EMS) squad located at 1051 S. Church St., a Mount Laurel Township official told TAPinto Mount Laurel.

“WPC Carey now owns the project outright,” Township Solicitor George Morris said. “They have not indicated how they will move forward but will keep us in the loop as to the next steps.”

As previously reported by TAPinto Mount Laurel, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres program administrators have told Township officials they must enter the site into the state’s diversion process or find the EMS squad a new home since the 1051 S. Church St. location sits on land that is part of the Township’s Recreation and Open Space Inventory List. Citing the cost of the diversion process, the Township has opted to find the squad a new home. A 2019 Catalyst Experimental news release indicated it would work with the Township EMS to turn the building at 1112 Route 73 South into its new home, but the construction never happened.

Before a July 11 auction regarding the 1112 Route 73 South site, Morris told a TAPinto Mount Laurel reporter that the Township was exploring unspecified contingencies regarding the EMS squad’s new home should no bidders for 1112 Route 73 come forward. He again declined to give specifics when asked about the contingencies after the July 11 auction, instead noting that, “a lot still depends on negotiations between WPC Carey and prospective vendors. I think we will know more as the summer progresses.”

Morris did indicate that there is currently no date by which the EMS squad must abandon the 1051 S. Church St. site.

“DEP continues to work with the Township, understanding the global issue with Catalyst,” Morris said.
