WHITESIDE Co., Ill. (KWQC) - Testimony began Tuesday in the trial of a Rock Falls man accused of setting fire to a Sterling Apartment, killing three people, in June of 2020. Carrie Hose, 49, Shayla Walker, 8, and Celina Serrano, 13, died from the fire that took place at Western Apartments on West 3rd Street.

River levels climb across northern Illinois due to recent rainfall
With how much heavy rain northern Illinois endured since Saturday afternoon, expect river levels to slowly rise over the next few days. Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: July 13-15, 2024
OREGON — On July 13 at 10:04 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the area of 100 E. Cedarholm St., Creston for the report of a pedestrian being struck by a passing vehicle. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Christian Stanbery, 22, of Creston, for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license suspended. Stanbery was transported to the Ogle County Jail to be processed where he was additionally charged with aggravated DUI. Stanbery was released on a notice to appear court date Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. The pedestrian refused EMS and had minor injuries. Stanbery was additionally cited for expired registration and operating uninsured motor vehicle.

ROCKFORD — A local family that built a following for its California burrito and award-winning tacos has opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant. Marrufo’s Tacos, 3222 S. Alpine Road, fills the former Ana’s Mexican Restaurant space next to the former Subway south of Sandy Hollow Road.
