Nicholas County woman faces felony charges after traffic stop in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A woman from the Mount Nebo area of Nicholas County is facing felony charges after a traffic stop in Fayette County.

51-year-old Cindy L. Chittum, of Mount Nebo, was charged with the felony offense of Operating/Attempting to Operate Clandestine Drug Laboratories, Possession of Substances to be Used as a Precursor to the Manufacture of Methamphetamine or Another Controlled Substance, as well as the misdemeanor offenses of No Seatbelt, and Driving While License Suspended.

On June 10, 2024 around 3:00 p.m., deputies held a traffic stop of a car for a minor traffic violation when patrolling in the Miller Ridge and Sunday Road areas of Fayette County.

Once the deputies were at the car, they found multiple loose pills in the passenger seat, as well as tubing and containers used with methamphetamine production at Chittum’s feet. Additional items associated with manufacturing narcotics were found when officers searched the car.

Chittum was arrested, charged, and taken to Southern Regional Jail to wait on further court proceedings.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office stated that any defendants are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law, and that criminal complaints are only a document that alleges criminal charges.
