Area Brief: Phillips to lead Handley track program
Handley High School has named assistant coach Lloyd Phillips as its next head track coach to replacing retired coach Michael McKiernan, the school announced Monday. Phillips is a physical education teacher at Handley and has served as an assistant indoor and outdoor track coach for the past six seasons. He also serves as an assistant varsity football coach for the Judges, working with the defensive backs and wide receivers.
Kidnapping suspect in Edmond arrested in Dallas
DALLAS, Texas — One of the suspects in a kidnapping in Edmond last month has been arrested. Kadarryus Caples was apprehended in the Dallas metro area this afternoon. Video of the June 14 robbery shows Caples and two accomplices forcing the victim into a car. They stole $250,000 from her and assaulted her before dropping her off, according to a press release. Investigators identified the car used in the crime as one rented by Caples' girlfriend. Authorities also found pictures on social media showing Caples holding the gun used in the crime and a large stack of money.
Independence Day Themed Race Draws Runners to Fayetteville
WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): This year marked the inaugural event of the Star Spangled Races in Fayetteville and it was a success. “We’re here this morning with a race by Active Southern West Virginia Races. We’re really excited to kick off the inaugural races at Wolf Creek trails. This race helps support our kids. So, every time we can host race have a good turnout, we’re able to turn that around and have free elementary school run clubs,” said Melanie Seiler, Race Director.

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. — A Mount Olive Correctional Complex inmate has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder. 55-year-old Charles Redman, of Mount Olive, appeared before Circuit Judge Thomas H. Ewing on Monday, where Ewing passed down the sentence in connection to the November 2020 murder of another Mount Olive inmate.

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. – Christopher Stewart Moorehead, 60, died suddenly at his home here on June 29, 2024. He was born Oct. 18, 1963 in Ridgewood, N.J. to Joan S. and Robert M. Moorehead. He grew up in South Paris and Waterville, attending schools in those towns, spent a freshman year at Babson (Massachusetts) College and graduated with honors from the University of Maine at Orono in 1986.
