Summer heat hits pinnacle
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -It’s been a fascinating afternoon here at the wsaz.com weather center. Hannah and I have been watching the thermometers at the Huntington Tri-State and Charleston Yeager International airport with much scrutiny. After all, it is one about one summer per decade that the temperature hits 100 degrees. From 2pm thru 6 pm, the temperature kissed 99 at both airports several times only to back away when some clouds passed. By my count that dodge ball around 100 occurred a dozen time in Huntington.
Rivers Nearing Mid-July Low Flow Levels Amidst Drought
WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The heat and dry weather are working in tandem to dry out the soil and the area rivers and streams. The river and stream levels are declining and an analog year to this summer is 1964. Rainfall was very scarce and temperatures actually cooler than average during that summer. What we are seeing this summer is that a bit more rain than the summer of 1964 was offset by much above average temperatures. The heat dries the soil readily, so it offsets the even drier summer we had in 1964.

Crews searching for man they believe drowned at Sutton Lake, officials say
BRAXTON COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Rescue teams are searching for a man who they believe drowned Monday at Sutton Lake in Braxton County, law enforcement said. West Virginia Division of Natural Resources officers said a 25-year-old Charleston man was on a boat with family members when a child began experiencing trouble in the water.
