Local tennis: Public Courts tournament moved indoors
Two hundred forty-four tennis players from five states will gather in Charleston for the 63rd Charleston Public Courts Tennis Tournament beginning Saturday. The tournament was scheduled to be held at the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Kanawha City. However, due to expected high temperatures, Public Courts has been moved indoors to the Charleston Tennis Club in South Hills.

Derick Kirk Foundation presents music scholarships
2024 Winfield High graduates Benjamin Seabolt (WVU) and Mitchell Proper (Marshall) received $1,500 scholarships from the Derick Kirk Foundation, a Boone County-based non-profit that provides music scholarships to area students pursuing degrees in music education. Seabolt and Proper are joined by foundation representatives Lois Kirk and Darren Kirk. A summer outdoor concert fundraiser is scheduled for July 20 at 6 p.m. at The Bucket restaurant in Charleston.
