JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – If you’re a major history buff or if you just love beautiful scenic farmland, this weekend there is a special event you won’t want to miss!

The Historical Society of Mount Pleasant will host their annual tour of historic properties.

It’s a step back in time as visitors will tour over 40 historic buildings several of which are still in use. The town is considered a historic landmark which played a big part in helping thousands of escaped slaves reach freedom though the Underground Railroad.

One of the major attractions is the Irish Ridge Farms which contains a number of unique items including over 50 antique tractors and a refurbished house from the 1800’s.

“We’ve used the barn door from the major barn for the head board of our bed and for the curtains in our bedroom. So we have some very different things. We have quilts that my mother made, that will be on display. Also for women are the rain gardens and flower beds.”

Beverly Riddle, Co-owner, Irish Ridge Farms

“You are looking back at things that we’re state-of-the-art when they were new. Today we look at them as antiques and how maybe simple they were and dangerous in parts of them. You don’t see that every day.”

Bruce Riddle, Co-Owner, Irish Ridge Farms

“We have a lot to offer in Mt Pleasant. So it’s sort of like a one stop shop. You can come out here and see houses built in a whole range of years, starting from 1804 as you walk up and down the street you will see historic buildings wherever you look.”

Tom Haynes, President, Mt. Pleasant Historical Society

Tours will go from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Saturday and 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Sunday.

Tickets for the tour will be available at the Elisabeth House Museum, the Burress Store and the Irish Ridge Farms.
