Carolyn and Robert Eakin will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary by affirming their vows with family and friends at the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant, S.C., on February 17, 2024.

They were married on February 15, 1964, in the Frost Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, La.

Robert was born in Center, Texas, on September 26, 1938, under the care of Dr. L. S. Oates at the Center Sanitarium. He is the oldest son of Robbie and Hursel Eakin. His family attended the First Baptist Church of Center under the pastorship of Dr. Carroll Chadwick.

Center provided many fond memories of individuals and families: the Palmers, the Henrys, the Ballards, the Bradshaws, the Davises, Emma Fountain, Dr. Hurst and Mrs. Iva, the Truitts, the Jacobs, the “Tamale Man” on Saturdays near the Rio Theater and more.

The Eakin family moved to Dallas in 1950.

Carolyn Ann Hill of Shreveport, La., met Robert at LSU in Baton Rouge in 1960 while attending the University Baptist Church. Both are graduates of LSU.

Following their wedding, they honeymooned in Mexico, after which they began life together in Lake Charles, La.

Robert worked as a chemical engineer for PPG Industries, and Carolyn taught English at La-Grange High School.

In 1985, they moved to New Martinsville, W.V. with PPG and returned to PPG in Lake Charles in 1998, where Robert retired in 2001.

In 2009, they moved to the upstate of South Carolina. In 2020, they relocated to Mount Pleasant, S.C., closer to their family.

Carolyn and Robert have been blessed with a loving family: Robert’s brothers, Ken Eakin of Mesquite, Texas, and Dennis Eakin of Winnsboro, Texas; Carolyn’s sister, Virginia Lynn of Plano, Texas; their son, Steve Eakin and wife, Amanda, and two grandsons, Fisher and Emmett of Newberry, Fla.; and their daughter, Sheri Fannin and husband, Jason, and two granddaughters, Ella and Claire of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
