Mount Pleasant’s Shem Creek Shrimp Docks and Shrimp Processing Facility are being rebuilt for safety and to maintain viable shrimping operations.

The renovation is to “ensure the continuation of Mount Pleasant’s rich cultural heritage of shrimping and support for the local economy,” according to a news release.

For the renovation, the existing boardwalk and pier will be removed and replaced along with the structure on the waterway of the shoreline, according to the release.

According to the release, this will create a wider walking clearance for visitors and workers, a stronger structure against weather and a new electrical system for the shrimping fleets.

Throughout the renovations, the fresh shrimp and seafood sales will stay operating at Tarvin Seafood.

“The renovation of our shrimp docks and processing facility is a testament to our commitment to preserving Mount Pleasant’s shrimping legacy while ensuring modern and safe operations,” said Project Manager, Kevin Mitchell, in the release. “We are excited to see these improvements benefit our community and support our local shrimping industry.”
