MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Mount Pleasant water customers can expect their next bill to be higher than normal after a rate hike went into effect Monday.

Mount Pleasant Waterworks announced the water company raised rates by 8% as part of the fiscal year 2025 budget.

MPW Commissioners approved the rate hike at a June 17 meeting.

“The new rates reflect MPW’s commitment to protecting public health and the environment by investing in the renewal and replacement of our infrastructure,” said MPW General Manager Allan Clum. “I want to thank the Commissioners and our staff for their efforts throughout the ratemaking process that started in May 2024.”

Some costs were absorbed by waterworks including an increase in the contractual rate of purchased water, increased insurance premiums, and assisting customers with affordability concerns, company officials said.
