First annual Beau Hammond Classic held at Patriot’s Point

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – On Tuesday at Patriot’s Point Golf Club, a special tournament was held for a man, and money was raised for a woman critically injured in a dog attack.

Three and a half months ago, Jane Hammond was attacked by a neighbor’s dog. Less than 24 hours later, her husband, Beau Hammond, passed away.

The first annual Beau Hammond classic took place in his honor to raise money for Jane’s medical expenses. Hundreds of Hammond’s friends participated in the classic, and thousands of dollars were raised to support Jane.

Hammond says having these friends has helped her ever since she lost her husband.

“That outpouring of love and support, not just today but for the last three and a half months, has just been something I’ve never experienced before,” Jane said. “I honestly don’t think if I were anyplace else, I would have made it through, but these people just showed up, and they continue to.”

“Beau Hammond, he was a real figurehead within the island, just a character but also a friend to everybody, and his loss was really tough for all of us,’ said Brian Walton, a family friend. “At the same time, his wife suffered some really serious medical issues, and so we thought what better way to not only honor Beau Hammond but also help out Jane Hammond, who’s also a dear friend of ours.”
