Friendship AME Church unveils new Tree of Remembrance

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Parishioners and leadership gathered at a longtime Mount Pleasant church on Sunday afternoon for its heritage weekend celebrations.

Friendship AME Church renamed its educational building the Jackson-McPherson Education Building and unveiled its Heritage Center Tree of Remembrance to honor deceased parishioners from the church’s founding.

“Today is a very exciting day for us at Friendship. It’s a day that we have anticipated for quite some time. We are celebrating nearly 150 years of service to this community,” said Rev. Alonzo Redic III, the church’s senior pastor. “We’re thankful for having the opportunity to be a beacon of light in so many lives over the years.”

During the emotional unveiling, the church also included a presentation of the church’s very first Bible.

Friendship AME Church is located off Royall Avenue in Mount Pleasant.
