    Mount Pleasant to host Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day

    MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Mount Pleasant residents have the opportunity to safely dispose of various hazardous materials at the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day.

    The event, hosted by Charleston County Environmental Management and the Town of Mount Pleasant Public Services, will take place on Saturday, August 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall, located at 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

    Accepted Items:

    • Electronics: Computers, monitors, printers, TVs.
      Note: Telephones, cell phones, and other small electronics are not accepted .
    • Household Cleaners & Polishes : Kitchen and bathroom cleaners, glass cleaners, bleach, ammonia, drain openers, oven cleaners, rug and upholstery cleaners, silver, copper, and chrome polishes.
    • Pesticides & Repellents : Weed killers, insecticides, fungicides, slug bait, rose dust, mothballs, flea powder, insect and tick repellents, rodent baits, wood preservatives, lawn fertilizer, and pesticide combination products.
    • Batteries : Household batteries, car batteries, battery acid, and NiCad batteries.
    • Used Motor Oil : *OIL MUST BE PLACED IN A SEALED CONTAINER THAT WILL NOT LEAK OR SPILL.* In South Carolina, recycling used motor oil is required by law .
    • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs): CFLs must be disposed of correctly due to the mercury content.
    • Paints & Solvents : Water-based (latex) or oil-based paint, paint thinner, rust remover, turpentine, and furniture stripper.
