On Friday, August 23, a gleaming gold trophy sat in the main hall of the Mount Pleasant Civic Center, residents of Titus County and surrounding towns lined up in excitement. They took pictures, posed with it, grinned, and punched the air as many echoed the same whooping cry, “Go, Rangers!”

The World Series trophy made a stop in Mount Pleasant in its tour across Texas and a few other states. After the Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series, it was a given that the team wanted to show off their shiny, new trophy and let their millions of fans bask in their victory with them.

Cheryl Springer, the Trophy Tour coordinator, has worked with the Rangers for ten years and said she’s proud that she gets the chance to take the trophy on the road and share it with fellow fans, “I have so much pride being able to do this tour.

I take it around and meet people, talk to them and hear their stories, and go to the games. The Texas Rangers are wonderful and I want them to win more of these trophies.”

Many who came to see the trophy are longtime fans of the Rangers. 62-year-old Kevin Thomas told the Tribune that he’s been watching the Texas Rangers since the 1960s, “It was one of the few things I can do with my dad, watch the baseball games. That meant so much to me. And just coming to see this trophy, it means everything in the world to me. It brings back all the memories with my dad and watching the baseball games.”

Young fans of the Rangers also came out to see the trophy. Lane Durant, 12, said, “I’ve been a fan a long time. I first saw one of their games when I was eight. I was really excited and a little nervous, but they won that day and it was awesome.”

Even employees of the City of Mount Pleasant stopped by to see the trophy with their own eyes. Interim City Manager Greg Nyhoff and his wife, Cindy, are both huge fans of baseball. Nyhoff expressed his excitement about Mount Pleasant getting the chance to have the trophy in town, “It’s a wonderful opportunity to have people just come together with their love of baseball. This is an amazing city and this was a small, but amazing opportunity to celebrate good things in life, as we should do in our city all the time.”

The Trophy Tour has already passed through Pittsburg, Mt. Vernon, and Sulphur Springs. In the coming week, it’s scheduled to head through Atlanta, Shreveport, Marshall, Longview, and Tyler.
