On Monday, August 19, economic development and city leaders convened at Northeast Texas Community College, joined by Congressman Nathaniel Moran, to talk about the growth and developments in the Mount Pleasant, Daingerfield, and surrounding areas.

The meeting room in the Humanities building on the NTCC campus was full. Many NTCC staff members were present, as well as Franklin and Morris County judges, the mayors of Pittsburg and Mount Vernon, the CEO of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, city manager of Daingerfield, and many others.

Congressman Moran said in an interview, “I think God gave me two ears and one mouth. That means I need to listen twice as much as I speak. So today, it was a listening session to hear from them about what’s going on in their communities and what we can do at the federal level to, number one, stay out of the way, and number two, to support their initiatives here locally.”

He also explained that a recurring topic is infrastructure in Northeast Texas. They discussed educational opportunities to upskill the current workforce and how NTCC partners with local communities and goes through great lengths in finding what businesses need locally.

“That’s exactly what we want to see,” Congressman Moran said. “Those partnerships between the workforce solutions folks, the economic development folks, the educational folks, the business partners. We want them all coming together with our city and county leaders as well.”
