Calling all Sci-Fi and Fantasy fans! Whether you’re a geek for books, movies, or TV shows of the genres, you can head to NTCC this weekend for the Northeast Texas Writer Organization’s Sci-Fi and Fantasy Conference.

NETWO was founded in the 80s and is formed by authors and writers, whether they be seasoned or amateur. According to a member of NETWO, Jeanette McDermott, they meet monthly at the Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant and have potlucks. She expressed excitement for the upcoming conference, “We had to move the date from April, so this is our first Fall conference, but we’re excited. We have a lot of good speakers coming.”

Several local published authors attending the conference are Michael Wigington, C.I. Chevron, and Michael Scott Clifton. These authors have published multiple books in the Science Fiction and Fantasy categories. Each has a number of five-star reviews on Amazon and Clifton is a multi award-winning author.

“If you are a writer or just love books, these conferences are great,” McDermott said. “C.I. Chevron is a really great author and has a lot of good input. She and Mike are always great resources of knowledge for writing.”

At the conference, there will also be door prizes, interactive writing sessions, and a costume contest.

The costume contest has rules and they are as follows:

    • Must attend the conference

    • No live or simulated weapons allowed

    • Family-oriented costumes only. Nothing erotic.

    • Face must be recognizable The judging will be based on details and originality, and costumes may be purchased or homemade. The cash prizes are $150 for first place, $125 for 2nd place, and $100 for third place.

The NETWO Sci-Fi/Fantasy Conference is this Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be at the NTCC Humanities Building in room 101. Registration for adults is $75 and for students is $10.
