A special session for the Mount Pleasant city council meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, in which the council and Mayor Tracy Craig voted on ordinances for the levying of property tax and the ratification of a property tax revenue increase for the next fiscal year.

The new property tax rate will be .340414. This budget will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year’s budget by an amount of $185,726, which is a 4.4% increase from last year’s budget.

The council explained, “The value on those properties has gone up, but we’re actually lowering the tax on those properties. That’s where you see a small increase and some of those appraised values had an overall increase.”

Lastly, the council also voted on ratifying property tax revenue with a decrease of .0044, which is 1.3% lower than the prior year tax rate. The current year rate is .344783 per $100 valuation.
