A new park is coming to town.

At the Feb. 6 city council meeting, Kent Basinger, representing Mount Pleasant Lions Club, presented the plan to put in a new park. Basinger told the council that the Lions had identified a piece of property in front of Chick-Fil-A.

“I foresee maybe a pavilion, with a picnic table out there, some swingsets,” Basinger told the council. “Of course, we like to help out the special needs children in our community, so we will probably do some special needs equipment along with it.”

According to Basinger, that section of land had been designated as a TxDOT Right-of-Way and had a maintence permit with the city since 1967.

The Feb. 20 agenda item regarding the park listed: designating the State Right of Way as a city park, accepting a donation of park equipment from the Lions Club and naming the park Lions Park.

Councilmember Jerry Dell Walker made a motion to approve, and Councilmember Henry Chappell seconded. It was unanimously approved.
