MPPD investigating after fatal shooting

On Feb. 28 at approximately 9:55 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the apartments at 1708 Shadywood Lane in response to a report of a female being harassed.

When an MPPD officer arrived to investigate the reported incident, the officer discovered that a shooting had just occurred and found a male with multiple gunshot wounds lying outside of the apartment door. Officers began emergency aid and requested EMS, who subsequently responded and transported the male to Titus Regional Medical Center. The male was pronounced deceased a short time later. He was identified as Joshua Freeman, 41, of Longview, Texas.

The initial investigation revealed that Freeman and another male, who lived in the apartment, were involved in a physical altercation at the door to the apartment, whereupon Freeman was shot multiple times. The other subject is not being identified at this time due to this being an ongoing investigation, however, he was at the scene when officers arrived and was detained.

MPPD identified multiple other witnesses who were also questioned regarding the incident.

At this time, no other subjects are outstanding that are believed to have been involved in this incident and no arrests have been made.
