Local events slated

A total solar eclipse will cross North America, crossing over Mexico, the United States and Canada, and Mount Pleasant is in the path of totality.

The solar eclipse will take place April 8, and begins at approximately 12:26 p.m. with maximum view at approximately 1:46 p.m. and in anticipation of the once-in-a-lifetime event, many events are slated, hosted by local businesses and organizations.

I Was There When the Lights Went Out

Downtown Mount Pleasant

I Was There When The Lights Went Out will be held in downtown Mount Pleasant from Saturday, April 6 to Monday, April 8. It will include food trucks, car and bike shows, a vintage market, live music at Caldwell Park and more.

Pre-solar eclipse party at Best Kids After School and Summer Camp

To give parents an opportunity to check out the festivities downtown, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 6, Best Kids will be hosting a pre-solar eclipse party for kiddos in kindergarten through sixth grade. Call or text (903) 380-3734 for more information.

Mount Pleasant Public Library

The Mount Pleasant Public Library will be hosting a family eclipse party March 21 at 5:30 p.m. where attendees can learn more about the eclipse and receive a free pair of eclipse glasses.

Watch party

Coppergate Ranch

Coppergate Ranch will be hosting a watch party during the eclipse on April 8.

According to NASA, when watching the partial phases of the eclipse, which occurs before and after totality, you must use eclipse glasses.

Eclipse glasses can be purchased online and at many local shops; some local organizations have them available as well.
