Annual 5K a success

• The event was a success.

On the Saturday before Easter, Mt. Pleasant residents woke up to a sunny morning and tied up their running shoes to take part in the 11th annual Move Your Keister for Easter 5K and Family Stroll.

The coordinator, Joel Chapman, said this race has been going on since 2013. Nothing can stop families and runners from hitting the paths of Dellwood Park to join the race. Not only is it a good way to get the people out and moving, but all registration costs go to Honduras to help the sick and needy. Chapman said it all started after a mission trip to Honduras.

“Seeing the needs there, the Honduran people are incredibly poor. They have no money and they’re sick, just like everybody gets sick. They lead a hard life. So we started this race to generate money for them. Every penny of this race goes to medicines for Honduras.”

Chapman expressed amazement as he thought about the year that the race first started, “It’s a very humbling feeling to see when people realize ‘life is bigger than just what happens to me, what happens to you. There are other people in the world that need help.’ We are blessed, so blessed.”

Looking into the future, Chapman said he would love it if the race grows bigger, but above all, he just hopes that it’ll keep going.

The top three winning spots were split up into male and female.
