An author native to Mount Pleasant came home to do a book signing Saturday morning at the Mount Pleasant Public Library.

The book ‘Union: Origins’ is a fantasy tale of found family and hardship, war and loss, and the book can be found on many bookshelves now. Kevin said he started writing the story in 2021.

“I originally thought I would take the self-publishing route. But I decided to pitch my manuscripts to a few publishing companies. I was surprised when one of them accepted and I had several other companies that also requested to sign a contract.”

As an author now, McPeters said that the road to publishing can be very daunting, but his company ‘Beyond Publishing’ strived to help him at every step and he is grateful for all the assistance. “They help with marketing. They do campaigning. They do the launching. They do consistent events. Their networking is constant and immersive. Beyond Publishing has been fantastic.”

McPeters also shared his own past as a reader. He expressed hopes that readers will find his trilogy as enthralling as book series like Lord of the Rings, The Witcher, and Gears of War, “You’re reading a book, but it’s still quick quick action, right? That’s captivating. I hope for the readers of my series, that’s something that resonates with them as well. I hope they’re captivated from the beginning, that they can understand and appreciate some of the heavy elements.”

While he may not yet have the fame of Tolkien, McPeters is making his way up. Dozens of Mt. Pleasant residents showed up to his book signing at the library. Many of them were friends and family who are supportive of him. His mother, Debbie, said she had no idea that her son was even writing a book till it was officially published. After reading his book, she gave her own glowing review, “I wanted to keep reading and turning those pages, even as I was getting to the very end! There is the expected cliffhanger, which left me anxiously awaiting to see what happens next in the trilogy. I loved this book! Let the journey continue!”

Books often become endeared to us and the stories remain close to our hearts. When McPeters was asked about what makes the story of the ‘Union’ trilogy important to him, he said, “The persistent theme of family ties is very deep. For the characters, some of the decisions and things that happened in the past, how they’re presented can be devastating. It can be wonderful. It can be horrible. It’s deeper than just action.”

McPeters is currently working on releasing the second book of the trilogy and plans to do another signing in Mt. Pleasant one day. Till then, you can find ‘Union: Origins’ on Amazon and Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Wal-mart. For more information about McPeters and his book, he has his own website at www. uniontrilogy.com.
