At a regular Mount Pleasant city council meeting on May 21, council members unanimously approved a bid for remodeling the Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport and reopening discussions with Titus County on the County/City Fire Contract.

There were 12 agenda items to tackle during this meeting. One of them was to consider the election of Mayor Pro-Tem. Council member Kelly Redfearn suggested electing Carl Hinton. However, there was no second and the motion was not able to move to a vote.

For the remodel project at the city’s airport, the bid was approved for R.A. Teal Construction LLC. Manager of Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport, Paul Henderson, stood at the podium to speak with the council about the project. He explained that they need one more hangar, “There’s really not room to build a hangar, so we’re taking one of the existing hangars and putting a firewall around it and using it. And that’s what this bids for, is to put firewalls around it and fans and vertical door that’s getting put in.”

Henderson explained that all funding for this project would come from a grant, so it would not cost the city a dime. The project and bid was approved unanimously.

Also passed was a pay request from Heritage Contractors Inc. for work on Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements.

This project would expand the treatment plant, with an estimate of $50,106.

A much-anticipated item on the agenda was the discussion and consideration to reopen negotiations with Titus County on the County/City Fire Contract, as well as electing two City representatives in discussions with the County regarding the topic.

The council voted to reopen the negotiations, and that council members Jonathan Hageman and Kelly Redfearn would be the representatives in those discussions.

Lastly, during the council meeting, there was a presentation of remaining allocated funds for the 2023 budget of the Titus County Appraisal District, which was a check for $13,610.90.
