A special city council meeting was held by the Mount Pleasant City Council Monday evening to discuss the interlocal agreement for fire services between Mount Pleasant and Titus County.

According to councilmember Jonathan Hagemen, members of the council had met with the county last week to review the details of the agreement.

“Based on the agreement right now, we’re looking at $650,000,” Hageman said.

“I’d gone back and looked at the contracts, actually from 1997 going forward to watch the figure change,” said councilmember Kelly Redfearn. “And I have talked to a couple of firemen and asked them their opinion and wanted to make sure that we didn’t have layoffs. I want to make sure that we can continue to work within this budget, and I was given a thumbs up.”

Hageman said some of the language was changed in the agreement, which puts it more in the middle ground in the City-County perspective, and Redfearn said that members of both the city council and the Titus County commissioners’ court would meet quarterly and have a round table discussion.

Hageman made a motion to approve the item; Redfearn seconded. It was unanimously approved.
