Dr. Chris McAllister (Biology Department) and student Michael Rodriguez attended the annual North American Native Fishes Association (NANFA) convention at Beaver’s Bend State Park, Oklahoma, June 6-9, 2024. They listened to presentations from NANFA members and went on field trips to collect fish for their parasite research. Dr. Mac and Michael discovered what they believe to be several new species of parasites from fish from the area. Michael continues in the Independent Research class this summer and plans to attend Texas A&M-Commerce in the fall.

This is a great example of the extracurricular opportunities offered at Northeast Texas Community College. To learn more about biology classes at NTCC, visit www.ntcc.edu/biology. Sign up now for the fall 2024 semester to get your preferred time slots/format.
