Contreras’ line drive 395-foot homer off Nationals reliever Derek Law in the seventh left the yard at 108.9 mph. He also singled and scored twice with three RBIs. The Cardinals have won five of their last seven and have the best record in the National League since May 12 at 32-18 (.640). Nationals starter DJ Herz (1-3) lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits with two walks.

Nats rookie James Wood looks to continue early success vs. Cards
Sunday marks the completion of Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood's first week in the majors, and the 21-year-old has impressed so far. Wood singled in his debut Monday against the New York Mets. On Saturday, game two of four against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, Wood hit a three-run homer -- his first in the majors -- and added a two-run double in Washington's 14-6 win.
In another leap for Nats’ rebuild, CJ Abrams is a National League all-star
That CJ Abrams has played 277 games in a Washington Nationals uniform can belie the fact that he is just 23. That he has been the Nationals’ most productive offensive player for the past calendar year can conceal the fact that he joined Washington on Aug. 2, 2022, the most momentous day of the team’s rebuild, as one of several young players with room to grow acquired from San Diego for superstar Juan Soto.

Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the retired and first female bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, used the pulpit of The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., to render a searing sermon calling the faithful to “put feet to our prayers” as she set the stage for America’s celebration of Juneteenth on June 19.
Here are 7 positive takeaways halfway through the Mystics’ 2024 WNBA season
The Washington Mystics are 5-17, or just a bit halfway through the 2024 WNBA regular season. Now is a good time for us to take a quick look at how they are doing overall. I decided to take this midpoint analysis into two parts. Today, I’ll look at some of...
49ers Brandon Aiyuk and Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin Would 'Mesh Well'
Until San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has a new deal with his current team or is traded to another the conversation around him isn't going to fade even if the smoke around he and the Washington Commanders has dissipated a bit during the 4th of July festivities. And...
Commanders challenge facing Dan Quinn even bigger than you might imagine
It’s hard to blame Dan Quinn for wanting another shot as an NFL head coach. With his team practically clearing space for the 2016 season Lombardi Trophy the Falcons coughed up a 28-3 lead to the Patriots. But whether he can right that wrong with the Washington Commanders is an even bigger challenge than you might imagine.
Orlando City vs. D.C. United: Five Takeaways
Well that was certainly fun, wasn’t it? Orlando City returned to the City Beautiful and absolutley obliterated D.C. United in a 5-0 drumming. For Orlando it was easily the squad’s best performance of the year as five different Lions found the back of the net. What follows are my five takeaways from a great night of soccer.
Match report: Orlando City SC honors Kaká with 5-0 win over D.C. United
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 6, 2024) – Orlando City SC (7-9-6, 27 points) scored three first-half goals to set up a 5-0 win over D.C. United (4-11-8, 20 points) on Saturday night at INTER&Co Stadium. Washington’s Recruiting 'Misses' Indicate Future Momentum
Dijon Lee Jr., Smith Orogbo, Josiah Sharma, and Donovan Olugbode each included Washington as a finalist for their commitment decisions. However, each of these class of 2025 four- and five-star recruits committed elsewhere. There have been a handful of other recruits that have followed suit by placing the Huskies on their list but pledging to another program. But these recruiting misses should not be considered “losses” for Jedd Fisch and Washington. Rather, some of the nation’s most highly-touted recruits including Washington with the likes of Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and Texas A&M is a testament to what Fisch and his recruiting...
Commanders' rising star earns his place among the NFL's elite
Ron Rivera turned a once-consistent offensive line into one of the league's worst throughout his four-year tenure. The Washington Commanders struggled as a result, but there was a shining light amid all the doom and gloom that enveloped the struggling franchise. Rivera emphasized position versatility, often to his detriment. That...
