Billy Strings closed out his two-night run at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, CT last night with a display of overwhelming talent and musical leadership. A pre-recorded train intro got things rolling, setting the scene for the opening “The Train That Took My Girl Away”, which gave everyone in the band—including Jarrod Walker on mandolin, Billy Failing on banjo, fiddler Alex Hargreaves, and bassist Royal Masat, not to mention guitar firebrand and bandleader Billy Strings himself—a chance to greet the crowd. After some high-speed picking got them collectively warmed up, it was time to explore the more psychedelic side of their sound with a tasty “Away From The Mire” that pushed toward musical frontiers far beyond the traditional boundaries of bluegrass.

Brescome Barton hosted a cocktail competition featuring Código 1530 Tequila at Tequila Escape in Stamford on June 18. Six local bartenders squared off in a friendly competition, creating their best cocktails for judges using Código 1530 Tequila as their base spirit. The winners were first place: Danny Campaverde, Nômade, and second place: Bryan Itaborahi, Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse. Código 1530 100% agave azul tequilas—available in Blanco, Añejo, Barrel Strength Añejo, Reposado, George Strait Origen Extra Añejo and Rosa expressions—are made using hand-selected, fully matured agave from Amatitán, Mexico, from freshwater pools and rainwater. Each batch is then filtered through the volcanic soil of Los Bajos and aged in the finest Napa Valley Cabernet French white oak wine barrels through the family’s time-honored aging technique, rather than the more commonly used American whiskey barrels. The distinctive difference in the aging embraces the “clean elegance of winemaking” to produce a uniquely delicate finish.
