CONCORD - The Concord-Afton Sunset Rotary Club is collecting new school supplies for the 7th Annual 9 School Tools project, in conjunction with WSOC Channel 9. Since 2018, the Rotary Club has collected over 200,000 school supplies for Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools. All supplies are delivered directly to the schools.

HIGH ROCK LAKE — Retired Capt. Jerry Wayne Howell, 83, formerly of High Rock Lake, passed away on July 16, 2024, at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living. A funeral service with Lexington Police Department Honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, in the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel, with Jimmy Truell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Since our move, I have been trying not to eat fried foods and miss my smoker, and I had no room for it. Midwood Smokehouse sounded like the perfect place. I called the General Manager, Megan Cox, to ensure they could accommodate us. She and all the other employees greeted us and made us feel very welcome.
Two charged after injured puppy found abandoned
DAVIDSON COUNTY – Two people were arrested and charged with animal cruelty and other charges after an injured puppy was found abandoned at a store in Linwood. Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office began an animal cruelty investigation after the 6-month-old boxer/pit bull mix puppy with a broken leg and a dislocated pelvis was found at a store on the corner of Old Salisbury Road and Michael Road in Linwood earlier this month.
