A new section of Torrence Creek Greenway is now open in Huntersville. Why it matters: Mecklenburg County is in the midst of a massive year for greenway construction. Greenways provide residents with more access to outdoor public space and alternatives to congested streets. Betty Combs, 89, of Old Mountain Road, in Stony Point, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, following a sudden illness. She was born on Thursday, March 14, 1935, in Wilkes County, and was the daughter of Fred and Dessie Mae Shepherd. Betty was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 71 years. She married the love of her life, Bobby, in July 1953 and was married for 67 years. She was a homemaker and mother who loved her family and her church dearly.
