Rain dampens July 4 activities, but police still busy
Showers seem to have had a calming effect for the Fourth of July in Salisbury Township. Even so, the Salisbury Township Police Department was kept busy. According to the July 4 holiday weekend report prepared by Salisbury Township Chief of Police Donald Sabo and presented by Salisbury Township Lt. Christopher Casey at the board of commissioners July 11 meeting, there were 134 calls for police service.
Huntersville police make arrest in deadly crash
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - One person was arrested after allegedly running from a fatal crash in Huntersville Tuesday night. Huntersville police said they responded around 8 p.m. to a three-car crash on Statesville Road near Mount Holly-Huntersville Road. There, they found one of the drivers dead at the scene and another seriously hurt.

Greenway tunnel creates pathway under I-77 for walkers, bikers
HUNTERSVILLE– A long-awaited piece of greenway is finally open, creating a walkable connection between the east and west sides of Huntersville under Interstate 77. The tunnel is part of Mecklenburg County’s Torrence Creek Greenway/Tributary 2, also known as Torrence Trib. II, which is an east-west connection in The Vine, Huntersville’s greenway system. Work on the greenway section broke ground in the spring of 2023, and the subterranean passage beneath the interstate became walkable last month. The town held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the connector on Monday, July 15.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - Two officers helped rescue a 3-year-old girl who suffered a severe leg wound on Lake Norman in early July. Officer Eric Burkhalter and Sgt. Brandon Lyon were on boat patrol during the evening hours of Friday, July 5, when a family with small children waved them down near McCrary Creek.
Maiden Man Arrested for Possession of Stolen Vehicle
35-year-old Scott Evan Tran of Withers Road in Maiden was arrested on Wednesday (July 17) by Caldwell County Sheriff’s Officers. He was charged with two felony counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Tran was jailed under $100,000 secured bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on August 7.

Davidson County deputies find wanted suspect hiding under a bed
DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson County Sheriff's Office arrested two people for a litany of charges, after finding one suspect under a bed. Deputies report that on June 11, they arrested Frankie Dale Hicks, of Lexington, and Dorcus Estelle Newton, of Denton, during a theft investigation on White Dove Drive in Lexington.
Teens Arrested in Charlotte After Interstate Chase in Stolen Vehicle From Huntersville
Several teenagers led police on a chase across state lines from York County, SC, into Charlotte, NC, after allegedly stealing a car from the Huntersville area. The event unfolded on Monday when the stolen vehicle caught the attention of the York County Sheriff's Office, which initiated the pursuit. Cox Mill graduate Braylon Whitaker was selected in the 19th round, 579th overall, of the MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
