North Carolina HBCU gets seventh $1 million gift this year
Livingstone College, a private HBCU in Salisbury, North Carolina marks a significant milestone with its 7th $1-million contribution in just seven months, a testament to its rapid growth and development. The generous donor, who prefers to remain anonymous, has once again demonstrated their remarkable support for the college. These contributions represent the largest monetary donations from an individual donor in the school’s 145-year history.

CLEMMONS — Mary-Paige King came about golf naturally. After all, her father, Kevin King, who just retired this past June as the boys golf coach at West Forsyth after four years and also was the boys basketball coach there for three seasons and left after the 2021-22 season. Also, Mary-Paige’s grandfather, Ron King, who was the boys basketball coach at North Surry for 31 years and won 502 games before retiring after the 2000 season, has always been an avid golfer.

Alexander County Deputies Charge Stony Point Man
William Paul Sherrill, age 38 of Stony Point, was taken into custody Tuesday evening by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. He was served a warrant dating back to 2022 for felony probation violation. Sherrill is being held under a secured bond of $15,000 in the County Detention Center. Charges of assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault are pending and scheduled for court on August 20th in Taylorsville.
Newton Shooting Suspect Taken Into Custody
The suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Newton has been taken into custody. On Wednesday, 24-year-old Keon Jemez Leach of East 1st Street in Newton was released from Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte and arrested without incident. Leach was transported back to Newton where he was processed by Newton Police for four felony counts apiece of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
