Two charged after injured puppy found abandoned
DAVIDSON COUNTY – Two people were arrested and charged with animal cruelty and other charges after an injured puppy was found abandoned at a store in Linwood. Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office began an animal cruelty investigation after the 6-month-old boxer/pit bull mix puppy with a broken leg and a dislocated pelvis was found at a store on the corner of Old Salisbury Road and Michael Road in Linwood earlier this month.
Foundation awards grant to The Corner Table in Newton
NEWTON — As part of The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program, The Corner Table was selected to receive a $5,000 grant. This grant award is due to a nomination from a local Starbucks employee who recognized the work of the organization in Catawba County with a mission to provide multiple feeding programs to those in need. Through this program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks employees, past and present, to nominate a local organization.

Two women have been charged with animal cruelty after five malnourished dogs were found Sunday at a home in Lexington, authorities said Thursday. Tammy Wilt, 58, of Olympia Street is charged with five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and violating a city ordinance for having more than three dogs on her property, Lexington police said.
Lexington condemns property holding up building new road
LEXINGTON — The city of Lexington has seized a piece of property in the way of a new road to the Siemens Mobility site. During a special called meeting on Monday, the Lexington City Council approved an ordinance to condemn of a piece of property of off Old Linwood Road and Brown Street so a new road can be built to the site where Siemen’s Mobility is building a new $220 million railcar manufacturing facility.
Salisbury woman sentenced to prison after she pleaded guilty to being an accessory to a Winston-Salem killing
A Salisbury woman was sentenced to prison last week after she pleaded guilty for her role in a man’s death in February 2022, court records show. Lakesha Sherelle Cowan, 32, pleaded guilty last Tuesday to being an accessory after the fact of murder in the death of Darryl Wayne Smith, 56, of Winston-Salem on Feb. 10, 2022, according to a court record.

Two Charged in Connection with Multiple Thefts near Denver
23-year-old William Alexander Munoz-Pineda and 24-year-old Laura Bell Redden, both from Charlotte, have been charged in connection with a theft ring in which businesses and individuals were targeted in Denver and the surrounding area. They were arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detectives on July 11 after they were identified as suspects in several cases involving the theft of trucks, trailers, a side-by-side trailer, and a zero-turn lawnmower, along with the attempted theft of a motorcycle.
