Mr. Ruben Orval Livingston Jr, 87
Mr. Ruben Orval Livingston Jr., 87, of Hazlehurst went to his heavenly home May 18. Mr. Ruben was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Hazlehurst to the late Ruben Orval Livingston Sr. and Johnnie Beall Livingston. Ruben retired from propane gas companies with 36 years of service and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Will Henry Livingston, Tommy Livingston, and Gary Livingston.
Vidalia Swim Team host Annual invitational Meet
On Saturday, June 29th, the Vidalia Swim Team hosted their annual VST Invitational at the Vidalia Aquatics Center. The team performed very well, earning 3rd place as a team, as well as having a number of high points winners. In the Boys 9-10 age division, Easton Moore earned 1st Place and Mason Zorn earned 2nd Place. In the 15-18 Girls Division, 3rd place went to Autumn Moore while in the Boys 15-18 Division, 3rd Place went to Brockton Estrada. Overall, the team had a great showing with lots of personal best times.
A tale of two counties
The trip from Watkinsville, Ga., to Alamo, Ga., covers a little over 140 miles and, according to Google Maps, should take about two hours and 40 minutes. It’s pretty much a straight shot down U.S. 441. You’ll cross I-20 at Madison, go through Milledgeville and then hit Dublin, where you’ll cross I-16, and then make the final half-hour run to Alamo.

Mrs. Madelyne Hall Meeks, 56, of Lyons, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Memorial services will be Wednesday, July 10, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Hardin and Rev. Larry Perkins officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Lyman Stacy Adams, age 87, of Uvalda, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native Uvalda and lived there most of his life. He served seven years in the Army National Guard and retired after thirty-five years from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ellis Adams, parents, Howard Stacy Adams and Louise Conner Adams; two brothers, Conner Adams and Bobbie “Leland” Adams; and one sister, Larue Adams Raymond.
Mr. Joey Morris, 62
Mr. Joey Morris, 62, of Hazlehurst died April 23. He was the son of the late John Henry Morris and the late Ola Mae Gibson Morris. He was preceded in death by his sister Gail Morris and son Henry Lee Morris. Joey was a member of Hazlehurst Church of Christ. He loved music, and always had a smile or a laugh to share. Although handicapped from birth, Joey never let that slow him down.

Ms. Sally May Carter Ray, 75, of Hazlehurst, passed away at her residence May 15. Ms. Ray was born Feb. 6, 1949, in Bacon County. She was preceded in death by her parents Earlice Carter Sr. and Dorothy Googe Carter; husband James Robert (Bobby) Ray; daughter-in-law Stephanie Carter; and brothers Earlice Carter Jr. and Roger Carter.

Mr. Thomas Shane Hulett, 50, of Hazlehurst passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 29, 1973, in Hazlehurst to the late Thomas Earl Hulett and Mrs. Betty Jean Cooper Bowman. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gary Bowman and father, Thomas Earl Hulett.
