Vidalia Lions Recognized For Years of Service
The Vidalia Lions Club recently recognized two of their longest serving members. Lion Mackey Bryant was recognized for his 50 years of service to the Lions Club and Lion Tracy Clark was recognized for 30 years of service to the club. Vidalia Lions Club President Fred Godbee presented the Lions with their pins and certificates of recognition.
Mr. E.L. Fields, Normantown Community
Mr. E.L. Fields, age 83, of the Normantown Community, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home, following an extended illness. He was a native of Swainsboro and lived in Toombs County most of his life. He was a finish carpenter and early in his life worked with Randall Carroll. He enjoyed antique cars, fishing, going to yard sales, old country music, and going to the Grand Ole Opry. He is preceded in death by a son, Eric Fields; parents, T.A. Fields and Dottie Lee Hadden Fields Blaxton; stepfather, Robert Blaxton; and two siblings, Homer Fields and Joyce Fields Messex.
Mr. Bobby Wayne Williamson, Lyons
Mr. Bobby Wayne Williamson, age 83, of Lyons, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of the Normantown Community and had lived in Toombs County most of his life. He worked at Oxford Industries in Vidalia, owned B&G Handy Check and was the owner and operator of Williamson’s Used Cars for forty-five years. He was a Baptist by faith. He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michele Williams and Tanner Williams; parents, Melvin Williamson and Vela McLeod Williamson Cannon; one sister, June Williamson Norris; and one brother, Lamar Williamson.
Jean Moses, Vidalia
Jean Moses lived the last day of her 96 years on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her three children in her beloved home on Center Drive in Vidalia, Georgia. Born in her family home on Tollison Street in Baxley, Georgia, on January 28, 1928, Jean moved to Vidalia at the age of five with her parents Jessie Lawton and Nettie Jones Tollison, known to all as “Mr. and Mrs. T.” Jean grew up on Jackson Street with her older brothers Robert Lawton (“Bob”) and Hugh Kenneth (“Hugh”) Tollison. She graduated from Vidalia High School in 1945, and fulfilled her father’s dreams for her by getting her B.A. from Agnes Scott College in 1949. After a brief stint teaching high school math in Douglas, Jean returned to Jackson Street and went to work for Family and Children’s Services in Toombs County in 1950.

Toombs County Murderer Found Dead in Prison Cell
An inmate who was found dead in his cell at least one day after he died in Dooly State Prison in Unadilla had ties to the Lyons and Vidalia communities. Dooly County Coroner James Hudson confirmed that Carlito Omar Soldiew-Acosta was found in his isolation cell last Saturday and had been deceased for at least 24 hours if not longer.
