Mr. David Jones, Sr., Lyons
Mr. David L. Jones, Sr., age 66, of Lyons, died Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of Lyons and had lived most of his life in Toombs County. He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, and he was a generous man who loved hard and was always happy. He is preceded in death by his parents, David Lloyd and Tiny Mae Jones; and one sister, Jolly Martin.

Mrs. Margaret Boatright Hall, 89
Mrs. Margaret Boatright Hall, 89, of Hazlehurst passed away April 30 at her residence under the care of Coastal Hospice. Margaret was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Alma to the late John Truitt Boatright and the late Bessie Marie Carver Boatright. She worked as a sewing supervisor at Ero Industries and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved gardening but her greatest passion was her family and selflessly serving others. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Columbus Hall Jr.; children Ricky Hall and Angie Hall; grandchild Richard Hall; great-grandchild Isabella Ellis; and brothers Troy, Don, and Nathan Boatright.
Jackets lose heartbreaker
Jeff Davis High’s baseball team suffered a pair of heart-breaking losses to North Cobb Christian School Monday in Hazlehurst to end their hopes of a state championship. North Cobb came into the game with a 30-4 record and the No. 1 ranking among the state’s Class AA teams. The Eagles downed the Yellow Jackets 7-2 in the opening game of a double header and won 2-1 in eight innings in the second game. North Cobb improved to 32-4 while the Jackets finished with a 23-9 record.

Mrs. Diann Miles, 69, of Hazlehurst, passed away April 27 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. Mrs. Miles was born Dec. 18, 1954, in Jeff Davis County. She is preceded in death by her parents Claude Moye Ryles, Ouida Mae Dayl Ryles, sister Nora Vaughn, brother James Ryles, niece Sandra Hester and nephew Ken Lightsey.

Vidalia Lions Recognized For Years of Service
The Vidalia Lions Club recently recognized two of their longest serving members. Lion Mackey Bryant was recognized for his 50 years of service to the Lions Club and Lion Tracy Clark was recognized for 30 years of service to the club. Vidalia Lions Club President Fred Godbee presented the Lions with their pins and certificates of recognition.
Mr. Bobby Wayne Williamson, Lyons
Mr. Bobby Wayne Williamson, age 83, of Lyons, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native of the Normantown Community and had lived in Toombs County most of his life. He worked at Oxford Industries in Vidalia, owned B&G Handy Check and was the owner and operator of Williamson’s Used Cars for forty-five years. He was a Baptist by faith. He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michele Williams and Tanner Williams; parents, Melvin Williamson and Vela McLeod Williamson Cannon; one sister, June Williamson Norris; and one brother, Lamar Williamson.
Jean Moses, Vidalia
Jean Moses lived the last day of her 96 years on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her three children in her beloved home on Center Drive in Vidalia, Georgia. Born in her family home on Tollison Street in Baxley, Georgia, on January 28, 1928, Jean moved to Vidalia at the age of five with her parents Jessie Lawton and Nettie Jones Tollison, known to all as “Mr. and Mrs. T.” Jean grew up on Jackson Street with her older brothers Robert Lawton (“Bob”) and Hugh Kenneth (“Hugh”) Tollison. She graduated from Vidalia High School in 1945, and fulfilled her father’s dreams for her by getting her B.A. from Agnes Scott College in 1949. After a brief stint teaching high school math in Douglas, Jean returned to Jackson Street and went to work for Family and Children’s Services in Toombs County in 1950.
