Illinois dam fails, residents told to evacuate area
Thunderstorms with heavy rains and tornadoes rattled the Chicago area and elsewhere in the Midwest, overtopping a dam Tuesday in southern Illinois, cutting power to hundreds of thousands, and even sending weather forecasters scrambling for safety. A woman in Indiana died after a tree fell onto a home.
ILLINOIS STATE POLICE, WAYNE COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE RELEASE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE ARREST OF A FAIRFIELD WOMAN
Illinois State Police Zone 8 Division of Criminal Investigation and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office was called by the Fairfield Police Department just after 7:30 Sunday night to assist in the death investigation of a 1-year-old male and the severe injury of a 2-year-old male in the 1200 block of Illinois Avenue. Both children were found inside a hot vehicle. Wayne County Ambulance personnel rushed both children to Fairfield Memorial Hospital where the 1-year-old was pronounced dead. The 2-year-old brother was airlifted to a regional trauma center in critical condition. Just before 2 o’clock Monday morning, Fairfield Police arrested 36-year-old Aydreian Hooper on a charge of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child. Hooper was transported and lodged in the Wayne County Jail. Illinois State Police Zone 8 and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate this incident. States Attorney Kevin Kakac says additional charges are pending.

Illinois Flash Flood Warning Issued for Mount Vernon, Woodlawn, Bluford till 9AM
Paducah, KY – The US National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a flash flood warning for Mount Vernon, Woodlawn, and Bluford, Illinois, until 9:00 AM CDT on Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service, street flooding has been reported in Mount Vernon. Residents are urged to move to higher ground immediately and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. The warning affects a population of approximately 32,334 people, with 19 schools and three hospitals within the impacted area.
Nashville, IL dam failure causes flooding and evacuations
Areas of Nashville, IL are under an evacuation order because of a secondary dam failure of the Nashville City Reservoir. Washington County Emergency Management Agency reports the damn failed about 10:00 AM. Washington County is experiencing an emergency flood situation. Many roads are underwater with another 2-4 inches of rain possible. Washington County EMA is asking for all individuals residing or working within the indicated area to evacuate. A shelter is set up at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 680 West Walnut. The Red Cross has been activated. More than 5-inches of rain has fallen in the Nashville area this morning.
