Rural Odin man injured in four-wheeler crash
A 64-year-old rural Odin man was injured Thursday afternoon in a four wheeler crash on the West Boone Street Road near the Hotze Road intersection northwest of Salem. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Lyle Talbert of Alma Hatchery Road lost control and ran off into the roadside ditch. While an Air Evac helicopter was originally called, Talbert ended up going to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.

Central City man escapes injury when wheelchair catches fire
A Central City man escaped injury when a bag he had attached to his wheel chair caught fire. Central City Police say they were unclear where Craig Heitkamp of Marvin Street was located, but later found him when spotting what turned out to be a rubbish fire near the Green Street Road and Brick Hill Road intersection.
Raising Cane's to open new restaurant in Marion, Ill.
MARION, Ill. — Restaurant chain Raising Cane's, popular for its chicken fingers, will open a new location Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2806 Joseph Cannon Way in Marion. In celebration, the restaurant will hold several giveaways for customers on opening day. Doors will open at approximately 10 a.m. on opening day.
Hospital recognized with Bright Spot Award
The campus of Memorial Hospital in Carbondale has been recognized with a Bright Spot Award from Keep Carbondale Beautiful, a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The hospital campus is beautifully landscaped, notably at the corner of North University Avenue and West Main Street.
