MOUNT VERNON, In. (WEHT) -Fireworks are often part of 4 th of July celebrations, but one Mount Vernon resident has had enough with the noise.

Deborah Hall says, “Over the Fourth of July, several days before and several days after it was like a war zone in our very tight neighborhoods the houses are very close together.”

Deborah Hall is fighting to change the city’s firework ordinance.

This year Hall says she discovered firework debris near her porch, causing concern about fireworks being used irresponsibly.

Currently, the Mt. Vernon ordinance reads that fireworks are allowed from June 29 th through July 9 th during the hours of 5pm until two hours after sunset.

However, Hall wants to change that, asking the city council to make stricter guidelines.

Hall says, “: “I would suggest that they regulate it so that people don’t have flying fireworks and maybe that don’t go higher than 10 feet but that’s their job they are they’re the mayor they’re the city council and they need to make these regulations so we’re all safe and we are all able to enjoy the holiday.”

Hall says the issues concerns more than just herself, and wants the ordinance to protect everybody.

Hall says, “It’s not just something that matters to me it matters to my neighbors it matters to veterans it matters to all different kinds of people so it’s not just. I’m not I’m not trying to forbid anything. I’m just trying to make sure that they understand that by allowing a few irresponsible people to miss use consumer fireworks they put all of us in danger.” Hall will address the city council tonight, asking for change to be implemented.
