BRIEF: Semi-truck turned over on Squalicum Way
BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – No one was injured after a semi-truck driver rolled over in Bellingham late last week. Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters told MyBellinghamNow that the driver was travelling along Squalicum Way on the morning of July 12. Peters says that the driver, identified only as a 64-year-old man, drove too fast through the area and overturned the semi near Roeder Avenue.
Colleen Maschmedt: November 20, 1942 – May 25, 2024
Colleen Reah Maschmedt passed away peacefully in her home on Whidbey Island on May 25, 2024, at the age of 81 surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Colleen was born in Seattle on November 20, 1942, to parents Albert Altabet and June Bellinger. She leaves behind her three children Jena (Jonathan) Murphy, Anthony (Abbey) Maschmedt, Todd (Leslie) Maschmedt, and two additional sons Bob (Janet) Maschmedt Jr. and Don (Emily) Maschmedt along with her longtime friend and companion, their father, Bob Maschmedt. Together they had 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Deitra Bjornathun, countless friends, relatives, and her beloved dog, Yona.
Michael Alan Nichols: 1952–2024
South Whidbey Island lost one of its more colorful characters early-am Tuesday with the passing of Michael Alan Nichols two months shy of turning 72. Nichols was better known by the monikers of “Mikey” and/or “Dr. Dirt”. The latter seemed appropriate given his talent for making green things grow strong and proud. But Nichols actually had a university degree in soil science (plus an inherited green thumb from his father!).
